Theodore
Chletsos is quickly becoming a sought-after artist in
opera and concert. While a Resident Artist at The Minnesota Opera, he
performed the role of Tom Norman in the North American premiere of Joseph
Merrick, Elephant Man, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Remendado in
Carmen, and Goro in Madama Butterfly. Mr. Chletsos’ other credits
include Anatol in Vanessa, Detleff in The Student Prince, and
the title role in Les Contes d’Hoffmann in a matinee at Central City
Opera, Tybalt in Romeo et Juliette at Indianapolis Opera, St. Brioche
in The Merry Widow at Chautauqua Opera, and has covered roles such as
Rodolfo in La Boheme, Romeo in Romeo et Juliette, Pinkerton in
Madama Butterfly, and Cavaradossi in Tosca.
Mr. Chletsos has been a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Oregon Symphony, the Orchestra of the Des Moines Metro Opera, and other presenting organizations across the country. Awards include the Shoshana Foundation’s prestigious Richard F. Gold Career Grant and participation on the Metropolitan Opera stage in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Semi-Finals in NYC in 2004. He received his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University and pursued graduate studies at the University of Missouri Kansas City, where he performed Tamino in Die Zauberflote and Judge Danforth in The Crucible.
Most recently, Theodore was Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Michael Ching’s recent sequel: Buoso’s Ghost with New Jersey Opera Theater; upcoming engagements include Verdi’s Requiem with The Sofia Orchestra and the world premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon’s The Grapes of Wrath, a co-production between The Minnesota Opera and Utah Opera in 2007. This June he will be singing Pinkerton in the Green Mountain Opera Festival's Madama Butterfly production.
